School and Community When I arrived to attend my next afternoon in my assigned grade 1 classroom I was met by my host teacher. She seemed pleased to see me and was excited to have her students show off how well they did their routines. This day one of her difficult students was on an in-school suspension. The student was assigned to the principal, who came in periodically, to ask what was next for lessons.
The assistant to the teacher helped my host teacher as well as the other grade one classroom. At recess there were a few teachers that did outdoor supervision. We did a tour of the school looking at career choices of different students in various grades. These were shown on the walls outside the classrooms with accompanying photos and names of the students. It seems to be career week throughout the school. My host teacher let me know that people from various professions would be at the school for a Career Fair Day coming up which will show the students the different roles adults make up in their community. There is a Before and After School Program and a daycare at this school. They host an annual Terry Fox Run. I am sure there are community volunteers but so far I have been unaware of their presence. It does not take long for the mom's, dad's, babysitters, and grandparents to pick up their young ones. Who are the people in your school?
